ISLA - International Sound and Light Arts is an international art and music residency for established artists. The project was initiated by artists and musicians Cecilie Beck Gordon (DK) and Gabriel Ladd Beck Gordon (US). In 2022, they bought a farm on Strynø with the dream of providing an environment that stimulates creative expression for cultural creators from all over the world.

In 2023, ISLA received a grant from Realdania's campaign Underværker to conduct a feasibility study on transforming the farm into a unique cultural pearl within the UNESCO Global Geopark of the South Funen archipelago in Denmark. A year later, the study is nearing completion, outlining what it will take to develop ISLA into a cultural hub hosting residencies, retreats, a first-class recording studio, symposiums, intimate conferences, and exhibitions.

ISLA is still in its establishing phase, and HAC has had the privilege of being brought onto this project as one of two experts approved by Realdania. Our early involvement has allowed us to participate in crucial moments, such as helping to create partnerships with established art institutions and developing an operational plan that accommodates the needs of ISLA's users. HAC is also on the board of ISLA advising on and helping to qualify activities, along with creating a strategy to reach relevant artists and establishing the selection criteria and procedures for the residencies.

The project is now in its fundraising phase, planning to officially open in 2026.
